Dr. Jessica (Jess) Carney’s research aims to make mental health care more accessible, relevant, and effective for youth and families. Her work examines traumatic stressors and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), cultural adaptations to improve treatment acceptability, and the application of implementation science to bridge gaps in care.
Across the U. S. and Latin America, her work integrates qualitative and longitudinal quantitative methods to investigate help seeking processes and best practices for cross-cultural adaptations of mental health interventions. Broadly, Jess seeks to mitigate the developmental impact of exposure to trauma and adversity through community-engaged and trauma-informed approaches. Her collaborators include colleagues in psychology, public health, psychiatry, and social work.
